How is marketing a major industrial project different from marketing a consumer product?

Plan around milestones and stakeholders

A factory, building system or major infrastructure project has several moments where confidence must be earned. The specification discussion is different from procurement, and both differ from a public opening. My planning approach would map these moments and identify the people who influence each one. A consumer launch also has multiple stakeholders, but its public campaign must connect much more directly with the purchase experience in stores or online.

Match the creative to the evidence

For a proposed industrial campaign, build an evidence pack: approved capabilities, delivery scope, service arrangements and useful technical explanations. For a consumer campaign, demonstrate the benefit in a recognisable usage situation and make the purchase route clear. Strong creative helps both, but it cannot compensate for unavailable products or unsupported performance claims. JSA’s infrastructure guidance is useful background on communicating complex value; the campaign structure here is my proposed application of that principle.

Keep publicity and commercial outcomes separate

An opening event can create attention and relationships without immediately creating orders. Report media coverage and stakeholder engagement honestly, then connect follow-up to a longer commercial review. In consumer marketing, examine stock and retail execution before attributing sales changes to advertising alone. A fair comparison asks whether each campaign advanced its own buying journey. It does not rank an industrial programme and a retail promotion using a single cost-per-click figure.
