What is the difference between B2B and B2C marketing?
Map the decision before choosing the channel
The useful distinction is who has to agree before a purchase can happen. A household may compare price, appearance and daily convenience. A commercial buyer may also need technical sign-off, procurement approval and confidence in long-term support. HubSpot describes these different decision structures in its B2B overview. Neither audience is purely rational or purely emotional: perceived risk and trust matter to both.
Build two different campaign briefs
For a proposed commercial CCTV campaign, I would start with the installer, consultant and end user, then prepare a demonstration, comparison sheet and partner follow-up plan. For a proposed appliance campaign, I would work back from the shopper: the problem solved at home, the retail display, product availability and a clear purchase route. These are illustrative planning choices, not claims about a completed campaign. A shared brand promise can connect the work, but each audience needs different proof.
Measure the journey you actually created
A B2B dashboard should distinguish engaged accounts, accepted opportunities and won business. A retail dashboard needs visibility into purchases, availability and returns where that information exists. Avoid comparing an enquiry with a purchase as though both were the same conversion. Before approving media, write down the next customer action, who owns the response and which outcome would justify continuing. That simple discipline makes the B2B/B2C distinction commercially useful rather than just a label.
